A special focus for Pomare Day 2009 was the connections of Taranaki whānui. Mai i Mōkau ki Taipakē, ki Waikanae, ki Pōneke, ki Te Tauihu, whiti atu ki Wharekauri. Discussions emphasised the whakapapa relationships maintained from the time of the migrations south and how they can be maintained into the future. This kaupapa was particularly important as we remembered the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of war in Waitara on the 17th of March, 1860. Friday evening was a time for discussion and learning of three traditional waiata approriate for use at this event. Presentations were also be given on the 27th.
