On the 16th March 2010 at Kairau Marae, speakers from Te Atiawa spoke about the Land Wars that began with the first shot being fired in Waitara 150 years ago on the 17th March 1860.

Then people gathered early on the morning of the 17th of March at Te Kohia Pā, Waitara to remember the firing of the first shot fired in the Taranaki war.
