With a head office located in the heart of Wellington, the Film Archive is the home of hundreds of thousands of moving images of New Zealand’s past.
They house collections of documentaries, home movies, Newsreels, television commercials, feature and short films, music videos, television programmes as well as a documentation collection of posters, photographs, props and costumes.
The Film Archive have also developed medianet, a computer-based digital video resource which has replaced a VHS based tape Video Access Sites.
Medianet provides reliable quality, quantity and security of video content that cannot currently be achieved via the internet.
Through medianet visitors can search and view videos at full screen, and at full length, from a hand-picked selection including commercials, music videos, documentaries, drama and animation.
Viewers can browse content by categories, decades, alphabetically or through descriptive tags. Playlists provide specifically curated content of interest to local communities.
Medianet is available around Aotearoa and Te Wai Pounamu, including a site at Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth
