Sketch showing a decorated column surrounded by a fence. The words on the monument appear to be: "Ko te Tohu Tenei o Rere Tawangawanga no te 26 o Hepetema i mate i Waikanae 1845".An approximate translation is: "This is the sign for/of Rere Tawangawanga who died at Waikananae on the 26 of September 1845".Wiremu Kingi was the son of Te Rere-ta-whangawhanga (d 1845) and Te Kehu.
